Geek.kon 2007 (Vlog 2.2)
Posted Oct 8, 2007 - 20:22:45

A bunch of us No Brand Con staffers went down to Geek.kon in Madison. Along with the Taeliac Studio crew, we manage to have some fun and look rather silly at the same time on the UW Madison campus. Conventions are fun.
As you can see, Season 2 is going to have slightly different format than Season 1, but I think the integrity of "Random Stuff That Happens To Me" must be maintained. And yes, I know, we all lament the removal of To Slay Zombie Newton from the standard music of the episodes, but honestly... they broke up and my vlogs need to move on. Instead, I've just heavily peppered the entry with my group, Happy Wednesday's music instead. It's all full of fun or something.

Geek.kon was an interesting event to say the least. I have both good and bad things to say about it, but before I say any of it - I will state that they did a decent job for a first year convention. All the people involved should be proud of themselves for putting something together so well run. That said, they made some errors (which is to be expected). The vendor room was far too small for the number of vendors - either having a larger room (which wasn't possible in their facility) or splitting up the vendors into two rooms (which was possible) would have been better options. Also, the staff should have been more active in whipping up a party at the mixer. Frankly, one of the biggest problems I had with the convention was the building -- trudging through three stories was not that fun.

Not fun at all.

Any other problems I just chalk up to inexperience, and I'm sure they'll get better if they choose to hold a second Geek.kon.

The rest of the NoBrandCon Staff went to SogenCon this last weekend too... and from everything I've heard they all wish they had gone to Geek.kon instead. Apparently it was a bit of a disaster, but as I wasn't there, I don't want to go too much into it.

Crysta and I stayed with my brother while we were in Madison. It was nice to be able to see him, as I rarely hang out with him. I will also mention that I hate driving in Madison.

Hate it hate it hate it.

And parking is pretty bad there too. Blah.

Yes, I agree.  Luke Ski was bad.  Really off-key.  I'm kinda glad I was busy down in the masquerade green room for most of it...

Great vid!  ^_^

i was at sogen and it wasn't too bad, but that's because i was just running around having fun and not really doing much else. our panel was kinda crazy, but in a good way. also, i actually slept (ie i wasn't up at all hour of the night). but i'm sure that next year will end up being tons better since they'll take all that went wrong and fix it.
Bah - you should have come to Geek.kon and hung out with the cool kids there. :P
well, that would have been interesting as well...but we were guests at sogen, plus we kept "abducting" the guests from other people. ie they kept hanging out with us. and i got to run around with my girls. though just you wait for NBC. it shall be interesting...especially with our cosplay! MUWA HAHAH!
More like "Boo Ski".
