1 July 2001 : Jarod Wrote Me . . .

I had a friend who was all about Shaq back when he got big playing for Orlando. Anything having to do with Shaq, he owned. I was dragged to see "Blue Chips," I heard his first two albums, so of course he bought this game (SNES version in this case). From Nintendo Power previews, I had already assumed the game was bad. I asked him about it. "It's pretty fun. I haven't gotten very far in it yet, but it's cool. Shaq da man!" Not an exact quote, but you get the point. So I gave it a shot. About 20 minutes later I had finished the game undefeated. My friend was pissed because I immediately upstaged him at something he felt he should be superior at. I was pissed because I had just wasted 20 minutes of my life. One can't respect a game that can be finished without any practice, in less than one hour, and random button mashing is all that's required. Reading your review, it came back to me that a good offence of kicking will tear people up. I didn't even know Shaq had special moves until I saw the shot of the flaming fist of death. I also recall seeing this game in the bargain bin of Kay Bee about a month after its release.
