"THE WORD PUSSY"

The word has 3 meanings today (cat, crotch, and coward) The last definition is the derogatory one that is used often in speech today.

"The term is also used to refer to a coward. For example, someone might say (usually to a male), "Don't be such a pussy." This particular meaning is believed to have evolved from the old English word "pursy," which meant "fat and short-breathed; fat, short, and thick; swelled with pampering." It wasn't long before people connected effeminate men to this term due to its direct relation to a woman's body part."

I am a woman and I only have a problem with the last meaning. To clarify--I find it offensive and ignorant.
Use the word "pussy" instead of "vagina" whenever you'd like.

In addition---think of how "dick" is used to describe someone that is being a "jerk" or "asshole" Then think about what gender "dick" is ascribed to. Male. It is far less derogatory but still is because it relates an entire sex to being an "asshole". Which would you rather be called?

Last point---"asshole" is nice because we all have one.

Given the meaning associated with women, I find calling men "pussies" extremely misogynistic because it indicts men by using a woman's anatomy to call them something lesser, inferior and wimpy. Are women lesser, inferior, wimpy? That's misogyny folks.

"DAD" -- you are completely correct in that sense.

This is an old article, and it's imperfect (in fact, looking back at this a decade later, it's rather awful) - the whole point was that someone tried explaining it to me why using the term was always misogynistic when referring to genitalia, not to a person.

I understand the argument but do not buy it. when I hear someone calling another a pussy meaning coward, they are using it as a seperate definition. It does not mean you think all women are weak and lesser equals. If anything i find it offensive that people assume that when I have said no such thing.

Pussy as recently said to me, and being in fifth grade, girls especially get VERY upset at this word. I don't know why either. And as me being a girl, I never understood why this was so offensive. But these generations will hate that word, then so be it. Thanks for helping me understand! 😄😄
