Hmm... I can't find the link, but I did see some mention of Seth MacFarlane being interested in being involved in a '90s style Star Trek show (as a producer or whatnot).
Well, here's the thing - the iPad is incapable of operating without another computer. I don't care how great iCloud is (and it is pretty neat) if you want to remove music or pictures that your previously synced or if you want to perform a major update you'll need to connect it to a computer.
Yes, the delta updates are cool and they save a ton of hassle for people that have software compatibility issues that prevent them from updating on their computer. Yes, iTunes in the Cloud and iCloud savs scads of people from the nightmare of data loss.
The problem is that people don't realize that having another computer is a system requirement of the iPad, so they get super annoyed when something breaks and they lose all the data that they didn't back up in iCloud because they thought it was for music (this is a conversation I had a week ago).
To an extent, Apple has been here before. The Air needed another computer for initial setup, and to load apps if you didn't buy the optional external hard drive. But the App Store is pretty much taking care of loading new applications that otherwise would have needed a disk. Hey, you can even update Mac OS that way, which bodes well for iOS, I suppose.
For now though, the iPad simply isn't independent enough of other devices for me to call it a PC with a straight face.
The balloon will do the same thing. More so than the sails. Essentially, it would just go in the direction of the wind. With sails you can tack to go a different direction, but you can;t do that with a balloon.
Cheesy, what novels have you been reading? The government isn't evil in cyberpunk, just ineffectual. Usually a puppet of some megacorporation or special interest.
Sad admission from Topher: The first thing I though when I finished reading this entry was "Its an old code, sir, but it checks out. I was about to clear them."
HAHA, I know what you mean. I have about a dozen people I know who I've known for years and who live within minutes of here, but do I ever see them? No, or at least infrequently (Andy Wilkins excluded). This is mostly my fault.
Speaking of which, I have to bother Cat again at some point. I don't think I've actually talked to her in a few months.
What the iPad will be able to store is limited. Applications, data related to applications, music, mail, stuff copied from the internet. It'll have the same issues that the iPod Touch and iPhone have in that, while it may have a sizable hard drive, there is no way to store anything on that hard drive that doesn't fit into its very narrow file structure.
I know that there will be unhappy people. People will be unhappy that it requires a computer to dock to. People will be unhappy that the device can't load some common applications. People will be unhappy that it can only run one application at a time. Again, the same complaints as are directed toward the iPhone.
Did we give you author privileges on EC yet? 'Cuz you should post this there. Plus we need to work out a way to get me all the disparate footage so I can use Wilky's server as a clearinghouse for it.
Then my question to you sir is this: Why is it better to push folks to vote, and potentially get knee jerk reactions to incumbants or recognized names than to excuse people who feel that they're poorly inormed?
I think it's completely acceptable to choose not to vote. I did it today, in a way. I noted that I knew nothing about several candidates, so I chose to write in "No Preference". I actively disagreed with the policies of all the candidates for president during the last election, and so I chose not to vote. The thing is I STILL made a choice. I STILL actively excercised my right to do so.
I'd like to point out that there is indeed a movie called Moral Kombat. If I recall correctly it's a bit of pro-Christianity anti-video games propaganda.
Why? Why would you do this? You do know what this means, right? It means people are just gonna have one more reason to confuse the two of us. Maybe if you got a really big facial tattoo, or something? Or dyed your hair red? Nah, Calvsie would still be confused.
Psstt! You could try looking for stuff across the St. Croix, ya know. They were silly enough to hire me out here, and I'm sure you could get something.
I was worried about the shear volume of military types wondering around ('cuz, you know, stereotypes and all), but it turned out far awesomer than I could have imagined.
I had a similar thought, albeit in a more sympathetic tone awhile back.
I went to see "30 Days of Night" and, while I thought the movie was fun, not great but very good fun, I constantly wondered what the folks in Barrow thought of the depiction of their city in that movie.
I mean, obviously their probably aren't really vampires up there (although I can see a few of the crazier goths trekking up there, especially with "Into the Wild" playing in theaters...That's right kids! Alaska, the Place to Die!!!) but what is that town really like, 'cuz it is a real place and it does have real people.
I think Vinnk may have bought that... Maybe Peso or Neil... I didn't. I think I decorated it, though. I remember thinking that it was vitally important that it be covered in duct tape. I'm not really sure.
My first thought when I heard that the Brewers were getting a new stadium was "Who's gonna use County Stadium?" It took me a second to realize that they were going to tear it down. I used to pass it all the time. Haven't been that way in a while.
You're conduct after the meeting today was absolutely inexcusable. I don't want you showing up to any more No Brand Con meetings if you are going to act in such an immature and threatening fashion. It's completely childish and I never thought you would act that way. You are a god damned adult Topher. It's high time you acted like one.
I may not be president anymore, but don't think for a minute that you can act this way.
Well, I guess he made a choice. Fuck it, I'm out. I work my ass off, then get attacked by Erin. Fuck it, I knew it was a thankless job, but shit. I didn't realize that it was this thankless. She doesn't show up to meetings anymore but to harass me! Fuck, I can't work with that. This is further proof tht Topher is great as long as he doesn't get to talk.
