Let Them Praise His Name with Dancing... (Ps. 149:3): Student Launches Dance Ministry
by Kaye E. Finne
Senior / Organizational Communication

Grace in Motion Ministries began with a spark that ignited along a spiritual journey. This ignition was volunteer experience at Valleybrook Church. Able to combine her God-given gift of dance with leadership skills within the church, Amber Anderson (Senior) set out to complete the task of choreographing the first week of Christmas dramas. Anderson says the experience of working hand in hand with the church leaders and members gave her an incredible sense of peace with God's leadership: "God was leading me to a place where dance is used to glorify Him, spread His word, and minister to His people."

With Divine direction, Anderson collaborated on her required capstone concert as a dance minor with Valleybrook Church of Eau Claire. Going out into the community has added to the work load of the concert, but with the desire to spread God's Word, Anderson prevails. "Valleybrook has been so supportive and just as excited as I am to see this project through. We want to connect the community with the Lord in unique ways, and movement has the ability to speak so much louder than words."

Through the wide array of creativity dance offers and with future plans of becoming a pastor, Anderson wants to serve in a unique way. She wants to connect with seekers and believers through the voice of movement and her own voice through Christ. She believes launching Grace in Motion Ministries as part of her collaboration concert is a logical first step. "Who knows where it will go from here? I'm leaving it up to Him."

Anderson came across a quote by Doris Humphrey that she feels echoes the direction God is leading her. "The dancer believes that his art has something to say which cannot be expressed in words or in any other way than by dancing...there are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume of words. There are movements which impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for movement has power to stir the senses and emotions, unique in itself. This is the dancer's justification for being, and his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art."

Anderson is searching further for deeper aspects of the Lord's art, and is thrilled at what is being revealed through dance. She has been blessed with the opportunity to model and minister to dancers of diverse backgrounds as they work to produce the concert entitled "Clean Hands Pure Heart' based on Psalm 24. The concert will consist of jazz, tap, ballet, modern, and hip hop, all in honor and praise of the Lord.
