Feature: AIDS: The Race for a Cure
By Kelly Bender
The first diagnosed case of AIDS was in 1981, and ever since then, the facts surrounding the disease have been hard to determine. But here's the first fact: AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, and it's just that: a syndrome in which the afflicted person's immune system does not work. Consequently, AIDS is always a secondary cause of death; the primary cause is the disease that killed tissues in the body.

The Expansion of Consciousness
By Phil Kolas
I'm here to debate you on whether or not Ron Jeremy is as important as Jesus Christ. I believe it's true. My job is to at least give you my view, its defendable position, and why I hold this certain ideology. The first step is to not stop reading just because of that opening line. Are things ever truly as they seem at first glance?

Imagine a Place Called Destini
By Adrian Klenz
After six years in college, I thought I was a fairly cultured person. I have been fortunate enough to play music in Eau Claire for the last eight years. Through my experiences at UWEC and my experiences in music, I have met a number of artists from the many genres of the art world. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard the term art incubator. What in the world is an art incubator?

A Gender's Progress
By Katie McKy
Since the 19th amendment to the US Constitution ceded women the right to vote 94 years ago, there has been progress. Women, the majority gender, today comprise 1.2 percent of the Fortune 500 CEO population. Seven of the fifty governors are female. There have been no female vice-presidents and no female presidents. The numbers are also telling for black Americans, who comprise 0.6 percent of the Fortune 500 CEO population, with no black governors, vice-presidents, or presidents.

SHADOWGRAPHS: Letter to Cordelia
By Justin Otto
I must apologize for the strange mood I am in as I write you this email, I am currently lost in fanatic devotion to Jesus with overwhelming thanks for the privilege of my being, in meditative agony for His rose colored blood that holds me so secure, in lowly want to meet him I would have all but forgotten this world and begun preparing for the anxiety of my last breath...

Christian and English Studies Perspectives on Dan Barker
By Matthew White
I had originally intended not to attend the Barker presentation due to scheduling conflicts and a general desire not to listen to someone talk about abandoning concepts which are near and dear to me. I went went because I had heard many things about Mr. Barker's impressive intellect, and I hoped to leave the evening with respect for that aspect of his presentation, if not the position he held. I was unable to respect either.

What's Wrong With the Word Pussy?
By Trae Dorn
Pussy. Five letters, each on its own harmless and without impact, but you put them together... and oh boy, do you have problems. Yes, it's a slang term for female genitalia, but until recently I've never thought twice about it. You see, it's recently been pointed out to me that the term "pussy" is offensive.

In Defense of Rumsfeld

The calls for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to step down amid evidence of military personnel having tortured Iraqi prisoners grew stronger throughout last week. Democrats lashed out at the Secretary, asserting that he should be held accountable for actions committed by those under his command.

Poetry: Stereotypical
By Danielle Swartz
I fade away into the woodwork
just another one of those "college students"
those "partiers"
those people that "cut" and are "selfish"
but I don't think that's my nature.
I've never been "one of those"

Music Review: Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Greendale
By Paul Karker
Neil Young fanatics were not thrilled about spending close to one-hundred dollars to hear an opaque, elaborate song cycle, filled with straying narrative from Young during his 2003 promotional tour for the late-summer release, Greendale. The album received more notice than any of his albums had in the past decade - unfortunately, the attention was not positive, but perhaps it set the stage for the forthcoming record.
