With this time being the Holiday Season, as anyone ever experienced that the one song you hate a lot is the one always played on the radios the most?

No actually that song doesn't bother me so much. I had sing it in 5th grade.

It's actually one of the more religious songs but my family gets really pissed off I even dare make fun of it.

I guess so. I'm more inclined to favor the songs more about Santa and winter than the religious ones for some reason. However Hark the Herald is one I like hearing on the religious side.

But Joy to the World is the one I hate hearing. I think having my parents as teachers makes it harder to make fun of too but I rather mock the the song.

I like the old Christmas hymns based sole on the fact that they sound great belted out with as much bass as you can muster!

I actually really love Christmas songs...

...except for "Baby It's Cold Outside"

Because it's creepy.

I can only handle Christmas music in small doses. That's why I try to avoid shopping at all costs after Thanksgiving.

The "actually" was in there because I'm not a Christian, not because I was saying you don't like them.

Its a "made to be a tear jerker" class of song I rather like going to youtube videos of it just to read the comments of people bashing each other for either liking or disliking it. I do rather enjoy it but thats just me

When was this song written? I hate modern christmas songs. Gimme the classics... and by classics, I mean something written prior to 1970.

Yeah I'm not a fan of Christmas shoes either. I don't like thinking about someone's mother passing away.

For one I would smack that boy for leaving the hospital where his mom is dying to wait in line for a pair of shoes that she'll wear for what maybe an hour before she's dead, and her son spent whatever money he had left on them?

I swear it was written as a ploy for you to go buy more crap, where the message should really be to stay by your love one's side, not go buy stupid shoes.

This discussion was getting so epic it needed it's own thread.

And Cheesus, if it's a country song OF COURSE it involves doing something that seems nice, but at closer inspection is really stupid.

That's what country music is FOR. Razz

While I can agree with that. Not all Country is bad still. I have a somewhat developed taste for some of the songs since I usually had to listen to it while I worked.

Just to clarify it is what I classify as Pop country, not true country.

Also Transiberian orchestras "lost christmas eve" may be the most epic christmas album ever.

Mannheim Steamroller's list of Christmas songs are still the best in my book.

songs I dislike:
Baby It's Cold Outside
Santa Baby
Marshmallow World
Happiest Christmas Tree (yes, this is a song)

The only one that is my favorite (but I prefer a choral version) is Carol of the Bells. I do get a little teary eyed with one particular version of Little Drummer Boy, but that's only because it was my grandma's favorite and she passed away two years ago.

I though of course prefer the classics over the pop ones. Those just annoy me.

There's some really good "pop" Christmas music out there--the Squirrel Nut Zippers did an entire Christmas album that I really enjoyed, plus who could forget The Vandals' "Oi to the World"? The BareNaked Ladies do some good Christmas songs, too, although I think they only do them live. And I once heard a chiptunes version of "Last Christmas" that was actually listenable. I'll see if I can dig that one up.

Totally going to agree with befu, though--Carol of the Bells is the best.
