Here's to the Women
by The Women of The Flip Side

The female staff of the Flip Side recently got together and talked about what it means to be a woman of our generation. We looked at all the fences women have to jump over, from the discrimination to the extra financial costs just for being female. After much thought, we wrote this letter to all the women of Eau Claire who have shared in these experiences and will persevere.

To the Women of UWEC:

Here's to all the times you've walked into an auto store only to be pointed in the direction of the fuzzy steering wheels instead of the Carmate headlight you actually wanted.

Here's to the women who decide to express their sexuality and are called sluts.

Here's to the women who pay for sky-high gynecologist bills and the monthly Tampax run.

Here's to the women who decide to shave with disposable BIC razors and to those who don't shave at all.

Here's to the women who lift weights instead of just sticking with the elliptical machine.

Here's to the women who don't think that "Great Writers" and "Great Women Writers" should be two different classes.

Here's to the women who cast away their makeup bags for a week and instead pick up their camping gear.

Here's for all the times your anger has been discredited and attributed to hormone levels.

Here's to the women who feel the need to bring pepper spray because, yes, it can happen to them.

Here's to the women who walk away from jobs at which her uterus causes a pay reduction.

Here's to the women who aspire to embody the characteristics of Eleanor Roosevelt, Barbara Walters, Betty Freidan, Naomi Wolff, Ani Difranco, Eleanor Smeal, Gloria Steinem, or other amazing individuals.

Here's to the women who believe and hope for a true meaning of equality, and for a new meaning of greatness.

Love,
Your sisters at The Flip Side
