Feature: The Mounting Nuclear Threat
By Samuel Kramer In a recent New York Times column titled "A Nuclear 9/11," Nicholas Kristof cites a Harvard report that describes a frightening scenario in which a small, crudely produced nuclear weapon is used in a terrorist attack on New York City, killing 500,000 and causing $1 trillion in direct economic damage. To many, this may seem like a pessimistic and unrealistic prediction, but taking into account some recent events in the international community, this scenario seems to be more and more plausible every day.
Excuse Us While We Rape the Constitution
By Tony Eichberger It is suspiciously ironic that so many social conservatives--who frequently claim to be advocates of "states' rights"--support the FMA. This constitutional amendment would implement a federal policy prohibiting the legalization of all same-sex unions in all 50 states; at least, that's how many reactionary judges would interpret the FMA's broadly-worded language.

Is The Color of My Skin Fair?
By An Anonymous UWEC Student Race is still on the forefront of our minds. But wait, I thought we weren't supposed to judge or label people by the color of their skin. We ensure we avoid this so much that we swing to the other side of the racist spectrum. Non-"white" people are still exalted as requiring special labels that are different from ours and needing The Diversity Room accommodations . They are still seen as different from us, but this time in a different way.

Here's to the Women
By The Women of The Flip Side The female staff of the Flip Side recently got together and talked about what it means to be a woman of our generation. We looked at all the fences women have to jump over, from the discrimination to the extra financial costs just for being female. After much thought, we wrote this letter to all the women of Eau Claire who have shared in these experiences and will persevere.

SHADOWGRAPHS
By Justin Otto I am having a crisis of faith at the moment. It is important that I am very candid about this experience, otherwise the seed of doubt may grow deeply within me and the bad fruit of cynicism might annihilate my faith in God and therefore my immortality.

Upper Campus Development Project: New Governors Hall Parking Lot and Other Improvements Coming
By Jeremy Gragert Everyone on upper campus noticed the construction of the new parking lot across from Governors Hall last fall, but did you know the project is far from complete? A few tennis courts and a defunct ice rink were eliminated while building the new lot. The two basketball courts next to the ice rink were moved south, replacing two of the six tennis courts, which were resurfaced in the process.

Brotherhood: Seeing Across the Great Divide
By Phil Kolas Let me describe to you the stupidest image I've ever seen: Two groups of people on the sidewalk of a busy main street. One half of them anti-war protestors, the other half pro-war. They were competing with each other over the all-so-vital car horns of agreement from passing motorists. This is while being separated by the 5 foot wide driveway entrance to a Taco Bell. "Ooooo boy, I dare you to step across this drive-thru and come get me!"

Police Fodder
By Justin Otto On X/X/XX, probably a Thursday or Friday night, a student was found stumbling across the bridge and required assistance getting up the hill. Officer X provided the needed transportation to dorm X, and then the student's roommate and the hall director were notified of the situation and told to take care of the student until he/she could sober up. Officer X issued a fine for underage drinking and gave student X a counseling pamphlet or something.

Letter to the Editor: In Response to 'Legality vs. Morality'
By Nicholas Johnson Written in response to the article "Legality vs. Morality: A Defense of Gay Marriage" by Matthew Konradt, which appeared in The Flip Side Volume 1, Issue 7 (March 3rd - 16th, 2004).

Poetry: Soul of Glass
By Vanessa Gertz Leaves turn over the slumber of my days as I wait. A girl made of glass doesn't melt under the heat.

Poetry: Reflections in the Snow
By Barry Cogswell Reflections show from the ground to the sky images shimmer clouds go by sit and wonder

Game Freaks: Kirby's Dream Land
By Matthew White and Matt Biedermann Matt and Matt dig out their old 20 lb Game Boys for a little bit of amber screened, 4-bit handheld excitement with Kirby's Dream Land. I swear whoever dreamed up the villain, King Dedede, was on some kind of drug ("The giant penguins are everywhere!"), but that's totally beside the point.
