Feature: Letter Home From Afghanistan
By Sgt. Daniel D. Dassow
I am not sure on how to start this email off, so I will just try to write about several things. My name is Daniel D. Dassow, son of Russ Dassow and Linda Dassow, both of Medford. I have two sisters, Kris (Mrs. Dave Brandner), and Lori (Mrs. Brian Griebeler). I was born in Medford on October 10, 1980. I was raised there and graduated from M.A.S.H. in 1999. I joined the U.S. Army Reserve that same year and left for boot camp a week after graduating.

Eliminating Success: In Response to the Possible Elimination of the Music Therapy Program
By JonPaul Dragseth
What is Music Therapy? Most of us who have chosen this career path are asked this question multiple times a day. Music Therapy is the fusion of the artistic with the scientific. Music Therapists strive to change behavior and thought processes through the application of music.

Dan Barker Speaks Tonight at Schofield
By Wendy Lyman
So you've heard the routine stories of nonbelievers "finding God" and converting to Christianity, but rarely do you hear the opposite: deconversion from Christianity to Atheism. Dan Barker, of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., did just that.

Only the Feinest Gold
By Tony Eichberger
With so much talk of the impending November showdown between John Kerry and George W. Bush, another key race has largely remained under the public radar. Our own junior U.S. Senator, Russ Feingold, will be up for reelection this year. Allow me to make an appeal to students and other Wisconsin voters as to why you should consider giving your vote for Senator Feingold in November.

Hempfest 2004--The 10th Anniversary
By Randy Lusk
Facing another gorgeous spring here in EC, I find myself and most of my friends getting ready for this year's annual Hempfest, held at Rod and Gun Park on May 1st. At the beginning of this, my last year of school, I realized that this is to be the 10th Anniversary of UWEC's own personal Hempfest, and that meant we would have to bust out the big guns and do it right.

Where Is Originality In Hollywood? Prequels, Sequels, and Remakes, Oh My!
By Trevor Kupfer
Taking a look back on the past few years, one can't help but notice that the more profitable and popular films are (for the most part) unoriginal. In 2002, five of the top ten highest grossing movies were sequels, prequels, or remakes. Similarly, last year six of the top ten were, and the trend continues.

Egg Banks: Donation for Infertile Couples
By Wendy Lyman
Sperm banks are always the butt of spinster jokes, and fertility drugs are the reflex answer for many infertile couples. Still, out there are the couples in which the woman cannot use any of her own eggs, and homosexual couples seeking more options. Among all the new reproductive technologies out there, I think we forgot one: egg donation.

The Economy of EC, and in The Debate
By Chase Buzzel
Inevitably the economy will be addressed by both Bush and Kerry, but in vastly different manners. Regardless of each competitor's economic paradigm, the economy has received much attention due to its perplexing behavior. The economy boasts numbers of soaring corporate profits and rapid growth in output, but the unemployment rate comfortably rests above five percent.

SHADOWGRAPHS: What Meaninglessness Teaches Me
By Justin Otto
When I was sixteen years old I took a bus home from work, here in Eau Claire. The ride was a long one, an hour altogether, for I lived in the north side of town. I worked, ate, waited for a bus in the cold, and got home late just to wake up early and repeat the process. Like many of life's lessons, the concept of labor came early to me.

The English Festival: Because Water St. Is No Fun Until 10 p.m. Anyway
By Brock Janssen
I'd like to tell all of you that this is the first sober Thursday night I've had this semester, and you're to blame. I got the job of writing this article dumped in my lap earlier this afternoon and it's now due in a few hours. This means no cheap drinks. So, reader, be damned appreciative of the sacrifices I've made to give you something to read as you sit in Davies eating lunch.

A Just Cup of Joe
By John M. Zanetti
Ever gone to Starbucks and wondered about all the places your coffee has been before it was poured steaming hot into your mug? Neither did I until I began to understand exactly what Fair Trade Coffee is and what it holds the potential to do. Essentially, Fair Trade coffee cuts out many of the middle-men involved in the shipping process. By creating a more direct relationship between growers and consumers, both parties stand only to benefit.
