Feature: Pedophilia and Power
By An Anonymous UWEC Student What is pedophilia? It is a question we all ignore, because we think pedophilia is something weird on the fringes of society. It makes us uncomfortable. We don't want to think about it. Why should we have to? After all, we tell ourselves, it'll never happen to our children. Or perhaps we don't have children. I don't have children. I don't know if I ever will. However, the question of the nature of pedophilia is one I felt compelled to answer for myself long ago... I was sexually assaulted at the age of twelve.
Of Mice And Men... Parts...
By Brandon Buchanan For the first time in history, scientists are now able to get one species (mice) to accept testicular tissue from and produce fully functional testicle and sperm of completely different species (goats and pigs). More impressively, however, the testicles can be formed from sexually immature testicle tissue.

We Want You!
By Justin Greif We at the Temple of Extraterrestrial Neo-Zoroastrianism are seeking members for our very fine organization. Our purpose is human salvation. We recognize that the corrupt members of this planet are destroying themselves, so we plan to ascend to a more wonderful planet currently inhabited by extraterrestrial beings from beyond the moon.

Not So Fast, Dave And Bruce!
By Tony Eichberger Budget cuts and salary raises still remain a hot, divisive issue for the UW System. In light of recent commentary publicly expressed by Regent Vice-President David Walsh and regent Roger Axtell, I would like to take this opportunity to ask the Board of Regents to keep the situation in context.

NAFTA Protests Meet Police Brutality
By Keira Belisle-Lamoureux Since NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) was implemented in 1994, trade between Canada, the US, and Mexico has become extremely liberalized. Across the top of NAFTAWorks' homepage cascades, "A decade of strengthening a dynamic relationship!" This statement seems somewhat suspicious, considering that for the past decade people have been endlessly protesting NAFTA and its effects.

The Case For Independents
By Jeremy Gragert Third parties and independents have always been advantageous scapegoats for both of the two major parties because the Democrats and the Republicans constantly need to convince Americans of their legitimacy and destroy any opposition to their 150 year partisan lean on our government.

Learning To Flex Your Rights
By Randy Lusk By knowing the Fourth Amendment to the Bill of Rights, you can learn to protect yourself and your property from unfair search and seizure. This protects us from unreasonable investigations and detainment by the police or government officials. According to it, officers must have either probable cause or reasonable suspicion that something illegal will be found upon issuance of a warrant.

What To Expect With The River Bank Project
By Jeremy Gragert According to studies done by Ayres Associates (a structural design company) and others (notably engineer Tuncer Edil from Madison), the tree-lined riverbank along Garfield Avenue on lower campus, between the footbridge and the Putnam parking lot, needs major stabilizing to prevent erosion or collapse in the case of a major flood. The bank at its current state, even with the trees and concrete debris slope, is considered somewhat unstable and a safety hazard.

MUNC: The Model UN Club
By Jessica Ebert The Model United Nations Club traveled to Chicago from November 22-25 to attend the Model United Nations Conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Most universities only represent one country, but because UW-Eau Claire's Model UN Club had twenty-six members attending, Eau Claire represented three countries: China, Albania, and Panama.

The History of Christmas
By Wendy Lyman During the Christmas season, many people talk about the need to return to what Christmas was originally meant to celebrate--family, love, togetherness, and the birth of Jesus Christ in the manger. Well, Christmas is all those things, except for the last.

Describe A Politician You Admire...
By Sandra Boone "Politics is what we create by what we do, what we hope for, and what we dare to imagine." With this thought, Senator Paul Wellstone began his book, The Conscience of a Liberal. These words explain perfectly why I admire Senator Wellstone. It was obvious to everyone who knew him that Wellstone truly cared about making people's lives better, and he helped others who wanted to do the same.

Describe A Politician You Admire...
By Aaron Olson Because of these difficulties with keeping one's principles, I admire the work of Paul Wellstone. Wellstone served the people of Minnesota as US Senator from 1990 until 2002. On October 25 of 2002, his plane tragically crashed in northern Minnesota, killing him and seven others. He is remembered as a champion of the people who did what was right, whether or not his actions were popular with pollsters and party.

Book Review: The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown (2003, Doubleday)
By Kyle Johnson Uh, wow. Really. Wow. I don't know how author Dan Brown did it, but somehow he managed to successfully combine an intriguing murder-mystery/suspense/thriller with a textbook on religious symbology and Western religious history. He has outdone himself.

Political Horoscope: Week of Dec 10-16
By Tony Eichberger Greetings, children! Spiritual forces far beyond my own powers, who oddly identified themselves as "Extraterrestrial Neo-Zoroastrianists," have relayed the following Zodiac forecasts to me. Just look up your date-of-birth to read your forecast. Please do not shoot the messenger--it would hurt your karma.
