Feature: A Philosophical Defense Of The Pro-Life Position
By David Recine
Abortion is one of the "hot button" issues in our society. The debate over whether abortion is right or wrong has driven people not just to picket lines, but to acts of violence. Its heavy pull on people's hearts and minds is seen in every election, and has been known to throw the balance of the vote, despite having negligible overall economic and social significance. So prevalent is the high emotion tie to the abortion issue that abortion is something people are loathe to even discuss in casual conversation.

Operation Radiation
By Tyler Richardson
The United States military is without a doubt the most powerful and technologically advanced in the world, but it did not get this way from shear luck; brave men and women have risked their lives time and time again for the pride and security of this country in times of great support such as World War II, and in times of protest and indifference such as Vietnam.

Primaries Ahoy
By Tony Eichberger
Now the winter primaries are approaching us. These elections will be held on February 17, enabling Wisconsinites to have a say in which Democratic presidential contender will challenge George W. Bush in November. On that same day, voters will be eliminating two of twelve current candidates who are battling for seats on the Eau Claire City Council. The remaining ten candidates will then compete for five City Council seats in April.

SHADOWGRAPHS
By Justin Otto
How old are you? This question elicits many different responses. A child might proudly say 'eight,' a teenager might say 'sixteen in three months,' a vain man in his middle ages might lie or perhaps not even know, a woman on her deathbed might say 'a hundred and eight' with the same pride as a child. I would say 'old enough to die for my country.'

Think About Marriage?
By Andrew Werthmann
The role of government intervention in people's lives has been a long-standing debate in this country. However, this debate just recently grew more significant with President Bush's recent welfare reform plan, which includes a measure to spend $1.5 billion over the next five years on marriage promotion.

Food Not Bombs
By Alex Gallagher
Every day thousands of pounds of food are wasted. This is perfectly good food being thrown out. In fact, 10% of America's solid waste is food, equaling 46 billion pounds of food discarded every year. At the same time there are over 30 million people in the United States going hungry. And it is not just the homeless. Sixty percent of those hungry are working.

The Pedestrian Death By Car
By Jeremy Gragert
Thousands of pedestrian fatalities occur every week in the United States. Pedestrian accidents are often just minor blurbs in newspapers, or they simply go unreported. Obviously not everyone is capable of operating heavy machinery, which automobiles truly are. Accidents are common place as a result, and penalties are minor (if not completely excused) due to the fact that American culture worships the automobile.

Movie Review: Melvin Goes to Dinner
By Kyle Johnson
Four near-strangers sitting around a table and talking about nothing for 83 minutes. In this age of action-filled blockbusters it doesn't exactly sound like the most thrilling movie around, but I found the independent film Melvin Goes to Dinner, written by Michael Blieden and directed by Bob Odenkirk, to be a fascinating, intelligent film which captured my interest through to the end.

[Untitled Videogame Column]: Super Metroid
By Matthew White and Matt Biedermann
Ok, so here's the deal. We're not total dorks, we just can't come up with a name for a column. Anyhow, as you can see, we're starting our column off right with one of the most classic of classics: Super Metroid. We'll each be rating the games on a scale of one to ten, with one being total donkey poop and ten being an amazing, death-defying headrush of a videogame. Have fun.
