FAQ
Things People
Ask
Alright,
this file was written back with v2.0 of the website.. I've only gone
back and made a minor tweak to the answer of one or two of the questions
since then. I apologize for the lack of updates, but heck, no one's
asked me any other questions since then.
Q. What is a Pagan?
A.
I thought I'd start with something hard. This is a very difficult
question to nail down a perfect answer. This is because so many people
have so many different personal answers. I will, of course, supply
my personal opinion. What I believe a Pagan to be is anyone who follows
a path based on the ways of the Earth. Wicca is the largest (and
most well known) Pagan religion.
Q.
Neo-Pagan?
A.
Pretty much the same thing.
Q.
Are you a Satanist?
A.
Ha, you're funny! You need to believe in the Christian God to believe
in the Christian devil, hence we are not Satanists. Wiccans and many
Pagans worship a God and a Goddess who do not represent "Good" and "Evil"
but instead masculinity and femininity. Oddly enough I've gotten
some debates on this entry in the FAQ. You see, there are two (count
them, 2) religions that call themselves Satanism. One is the obvious
that I usually describe. There is another, less direct school of
thought, but can someone explain something to me? Why name yourself
after a diety if you aren't going to worship it? Just seems common
sense to me.
Q.
What does "An it harm none, do as ye will" mean?
A.
This is the short version of the Wiccan rede (It is also commonly phrased
as "And it harm none, do as thou wilt" in some cases) that many Pagan's
go by as well (like me). It means do what you want, as long as it
doesn't hurt anyone. The Wiccans also have a "Three-fold rule" which
says that whatever you do, comes back to you three times which pretty much
enforces this.
Q.
What is the "Burning Times"?
A.
For hundreds of years, people who were declared Witches were tortured and
killed. There have been estimations ranging from 25,000 to 9,000,000
deaths that took place. We must repeat the words "never again".
The problem is, as Neo-paganism and Witchcraft grow, paranoia from the
right-wing grows. If we are not ever-vigilant in our prevention of
the stereotypes that plague our people, it could happen again. It may be
noted that most killed in the burning times were not witches, but rather
accused of being so. It doesn't matter. They were killed by the people
of the time because of fear about our people, therefore, they must be honored,
and it must be seen that this doesn't happen again.
I recommend
seeing this site:
The
Killing Of Witches
Beware
of any site that claims to be the "Official" Burning Times site, this is
rather impossible considering there is no one out there to deem a site
"Official" or "Unofficial", for no one holds legal control of the truth.
Q.
What is the whole Pentagram deal?
A.
A pentagram (the symbol, Pentacle is the Object itself) is the traditional
symbol of Wiccans and most Pagans and is NOT an evil symbol. It is
one of protection. The five points each stand for a part of
nature. Here they are (In clockwise form from the top)
Top: Spirit
Top Right: Water
Bottom Right: Fire
Bottom Left: Earth
Top Left: Wind
