The Sabbats -
The 8 Wiccan Sabbats are celebrated
by Wiccans and some Pagans. The Sabbats have
multiple names, and some dates may vary by a few days (due to different
paths).
Samhain
- Oct. 31 -
Samhain is a celebration
of the dead, the harvest, and is the Wiccan New Year.
Yule
- Dec. 21 (or whenever
the solstice is) -
Yule is the equivalent
of Christmas. Christmas is actually dated at this time because of the dates
of several Pagan holidays are all around this time and the church wanted
to convert people easily.
Candlemas/Imbolc
- Feb. 2 -
Candlemas is the sabbat
about welcoming spring. Of course, here in Wisconsin you couldn't tell.
Ostara/Eostre
- March 20 (or whenever
the equinox is) -
Ostara is equivalent
to the commericialized Easter. Same thing with the Easter date (and name)
that you find with the whole X-mas/Yule thing.
Beltane
- May 1 (or around April
31) -
Beltane is the last sabbat
of the three (Candlemas, Ostara, Beltane) in celebration of spring. It
also marks the change into summer in the two season calendar.
Midsummer
- Jun. 21 (or whenever
the solstice is) -
Midsummer is the Solstice
and the celebration of the beginning of summer.
Lammas
- Aug. 2 -
It is an in-between
stage of Summer and Autumn.
Mabon
- Sept 21 (or whenever
the Equinox is) -
The begining of Fall. |
